The mantel comes disassembled , so you need to put it together , they provide the hex wrench in the hardware, the only problem with the assembly was the screws that you use to attach the feet to the base are too short so my husband had a hard time attaching the feet ,thank goodness he is handy otherwise we would have had to call the company for longer screws. Amazon says on the invoice that it will be shipped in 1 shipment this is incorrect , it comes in 2 separate ones, first the mantle arrived , the next day the fire box, so dont be alarmed if only the mantle or firebox arrives by itself, they are shipped separately 2 different boxes, I almost returned the mantle but the next day the firebox arrived, I was very annoyed by the miss information on amazons part. The flame effect is O.K. not fantastic, more yellow/brown than a nice deep red/orange log and flame color, thats why I gave it the 3 star rating the firebox could be more attractive and realistic, I have 3 other firepaces all less expensive models with nicer log and flame color. Note that the colors pictured are not what you get, you get a buttercream mantle and a yellow/brownish flame effect. This fireplace does a nice job of heating a room. WARNING people with SMALL CHILDREN need to be aware that the front grill gets very hot and that the whole firepace is front heavy and could topple very easily , we have small children so we had to attach the mantle to the wall with safety attachements purchased from babies are us. We noticed the smaller dimplex model we had before had none of these safety issues in regards to small children.
