(More customer reviews)When you open the box you'll be presented with styrofoam inserts to protect components individually wrapped in plastic or foam bags. The first things you'll take out are the structural pieces: legs of decent quality and finish, shelving the glass panes rest on, and metal mounting brackets/racks for your TV. The glass panes for the shelves are on the bottom in their own cardboard box. All structural pieces were well protected from scratching during shipment, but the glass was completely destroyed. When I cut open the glass box all I had was literally a pile of glass shards in a large pile in one end of the box...enough to probably fill a five gallon bucket. Cheap 1/4" styrofoam inserted between two of the panes and the cardboard box were the only protection for the glass -- maybe heavier styrofoam would have helped, but I think placing the box containing the glass between the structural pieces of the stand to minimize impact and bending breakage would've helped more than anything. I've filed a complaint about the packaging already, but I wanted to warn any buyers of the potential of glass breakage. Be very careful opening the box so you can minimize damage just in case you have to pack everything back in to it and send it back to Amazon. If you tilt the box on its end length-wise and hear something like rocks rattling to the bottom of the box you may as well not even open the package and send it back.
I can't speak to the quality of the product when fully assembled, but all components of the stand (except the glass of course) appeared to be solid and well constructed. The wooden legs had a good finish and were pretty heavy so I think the overall sturdiness of the stand would be good. The glass on the other hand I'm afraid may not take a lot of stress before it shatters into thousands of pieces so take extra care when placing any heavy objects on it. I should be getting my replacement stand in the next day or so and will hopefully have a positive review.
