(More customer reviews)I wasn't sure what to expect when I got this pair of stands and I was pleasantly surprised when I received them. The base is a heavy cut-steel plate with a textured semi-gloss finish that seems to be baked on.The top plate is similar in material, but smaller (6"x6"). The main support shaft is made from "extruded aluminum" but very heavy and thick; also with a smooth powder-coated finish.
It comes with very minimal instructions but is simple to assemble with a phillips-head screwdriver. Cables can be run down the back of the support shaft in a groove shaped into the aluminum and through a hole in the base plate to beneath the stand. The kit includes two sets of adjustable feet: 4 sharp points and 4 rounded feet that are essentially carriage bolts turned upside-down.
There is a 1/2" dia. hole in the top plate that allows access to the inside of the support shaft. I suspect this is for filling the stand with sand or lead shot using a simple funnel. It looks like sand might leak out from between the base plate and support shaft but lead shot should work very well.
I whole-heartedly recommend this product and have a feeling other Plateau products would also be of similar quality.
