(More customer reviews)Mr. Martin, if your 57" Mitsubishi has a base wider than 51" then you don't have a 57" Mitsubishi TV. I have a Mits DLP 57" 57833 that is exactly these dimensions.

The stand you bought is designed by Mitsubishi for these TV's. I read your review and was influenced negatively about the stand until I researched it. You must have a larger TV and bought the wrong sized stand or if the stand is less than 51" wide then you bought something entirely different. Other reviews say this is an excellent product. Here's the dimensions of the stand that you rated. Can you confirm?
