Assembly wasn't too bad, about the same as any furniture items that you will buy. I put it together myself in about an hour. Probably could have gone faster, but I usually read and re-read the directions to be sure I'm not screwing something down upside down.
The cubbies behind the side doors also have adjustable shelves (1 on each side). If you put the shelf in the middle there's plenty of space to fit 2 rows of DVDs.
The only complaint I would really have is the felt pads they give you for the doors, they're really not thick enough to make any difference while closing the doors, the doors still sound like they are knocking wood against wood. This is easily fixed with pads that you can get cheaply at Home Depot or Lowes (Walmart even should have them.)
