Slimline Magazine Rack Sofa Side Wooden End Table Review

Slimline Magazine Rack Sofa Side Wooden End Table
Average Reviews:

I have this right next to my captains chair, fits perfectly.
Very sturdy and functional too.
Two minor reasons I did not give 5 star rating.
1. Instructions are not very good. Small pictures with no text made it a little difficult to assemble.
2. There are over 60 pieces and screws to putting this thing together.

Leslie Dame Glass Sliding 4 Door Multi-Media Storage Cabinet MS-1400 Dark Cherry Review

Leslie Dame Glass Sliding 4 Door Multi-Media Storage Cabinet MS-1400 Dark Cherry
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My wife and I bought this for our large media collection and wanted something that we could grow into instead of having to buy multiple units down the road. This was not only appealing to the eyes, but extremely easy to assemble, and kudos to the manufacture for that. I will be suggesting this cabinet to friends or anyone else that needs one.
There are a few things to watch out for... The first thing would be the packaging. They put in the effort to package the wood in a box, and then they put another box around that to protect the initial box, but forgot to put Styrofoam in between the wood and the first box. This makes it very easy to cut right into the wood, damaging it if you aren't careful. Another detail to remember during assembly is when you put your upright sections and the braces together, have a second person there helping you. You can do it yourself, it's just is a little awkward and if you aren't careful the braces will probably bend and then break.
Other than the common sense things, this unit is sharp looking and just as practical.

I received this order on time. The shoe racks bars don't hold up. They keep coming apart every time I place shoes on them. I do like the fact that it holds a lot of shoes. This product would be great if it just stay together.

Prepac Black Slim Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage Tower Review

Prepac Black Slim Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage Tower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Oak/Black is no where near the light color in the photo. It's much, much darker color. The tower also came damaged (several paint chips in exposed areas).
Don't even think about trying to return something to Dynadirect. Their CS department was rude and insulting. They refused to pay return shipping even though they were 100% wrong by "displaying" this product incorrectly. You shouldn't have to pay to send back an item you didn't order in the first place. Avoid these guys like the plague.

Prepac Cherry Large Capacity Hanging Wall Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage Review

Prepac Cherry Large Capacity Hanging Wall Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This hanging media unit solves a big problem I had with lack of available floor space for a standing unit. It went together quickly, had all the parts, and looks great on the wall. Unlike other floor-standing units, it has a "face frame" - framing on the front of the unit that makes it look more like a finished cabinet and helps make it stronger and more stable. While this looks really nice, and makes it very strong, the downside is that the frames obscure one item on each side of each shelf. In my configuration I have 12 shelves, including the bottom. So 24 items - for me, 12 CDs and 12 DVDs - would end up hidden behind the frames where you cannot see the title and you would need to temporarily remove adjacent items to get those end ones out. So I will end up putting in empty "filler" DVD & CD cases in all those end spots because I want to be able to see all my titles without moving things around. That wastes some space (about 8% of total shelf space), which is my only issue with the design. But it still holds a lot of stuff, and is a big help. Also note that it is designed to most efficiently hold only CDs. If you have a mix of DVDs & CDs, or only DVDs, there will be some unusable space at the top left over. The mounting system is a horizontal board you screw into the wall studs which has a full-length lip that mates with a similar board on the unit. I found it really easy to hang and make it level, and it feels very strong, which is important with so much stuff on it. The manufacturer, Prepac, always ships units direct from the factory, so it really doesn't matter who you order it from, just go for the lowest price. Fast shipping: I ordered on a Tuesday, got it the following Monday! Warning: the box is very heavy and it helps to have 2 people to carry it. But it was packed well to prevent shipping damage. I've never found a storage unit this nice in any local store, so online shopping totally wins out here.
Update - a second minor thing to be aware of: this unit does have a noticeable odor of particle board, even after 3 weeks so far on a wall in an open room. I have mine in a spare room, so it's not a big deal, but if you are thinking of putting it in a bedroom someone sleeps in, you might want to reconsider - I'd have trouble sleeping with that odor, especially with the door closed, and it is taking a lot longer for the smell to dissipate than I expected.

Clear Bed Risers - Set of 8 (Clear) (1" H x 4" W x 4" D) Review

Clear Bed Risers - Set of 8 (Clear) (1 H x 4 W x 4 D)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very good product because the raise height is adjustable and the raisers are wide enough to be stable. The height is simply based on how many you stack on top of each other. The square design is more stable that the circle design and interlocks as more are stacked together. The rubber insert on the bottom prevents the raisers from slipping but I'm not sure if it would completely prevent scratching on a wood floor (ours are on carpet) since it doesn't cover the entire bottom. The clear color is inconspicuous. On the top are universal grooves so that they work well under small or large wheeled bed frames and the round bottoms of sofas and bed frames. We have the cirle ones, too, but can only use them with round bed frame supports because the wheeled supports keep slipping off. The product is made of solid, clear plastic and has held up well so far. Each raiser is good for about a 1-1/4" raise. Hope this helps.

The tower went together in about an hour according to my husband. It's beautiful, and holds a ton of DVDs. It really improves the neatness of our game room, and is very heavy so it seems like it will be very sturdy.
If my husband keeps buying DVDs, we will be back for another one soon.

This is one of the worst pieces of garbage i have ever bought! I spent extra money because I thought I was getting hardwood, but this POG is mostly made of composite board. the pieces did not fit together well and the whole thing collapsed after i finished loading CD's onto it. I had to reconstruct it using screws. UGH!

Oak Finish Large 4-Sided Spinning Multimedia Storage Tower Review

Oak Finish Large 4-Sided Spinning Multimedia Storage Tower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was somewhat apprehensive before puying this product, because I wasn't sure how difficult it would be to assemble it. Although the boxes were very heavy, the assembly job turned out to be very manageable. Instructions were good and I was able to complete the whole assembly job within 45 minutes, with very minor help from my wife.
What I like about this CD-rack is that it allows for very dense CD storage - about 1000 CDs in a footprint of 18"x18". It also looks like furniture and blends in well with other furniture.
If you have a lot of CDs, DVDs and Videotapes languishing in various places, I'd highly recommend it.

Prepac Black Triple Barrister Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage Rack Review

Prepac Black Triple Barrister Media (DVD,CD,Games) Storage Rack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Prepac media rack seems to be mainly intended for storing a variety of types of media together (CDs, DVDs, BluRay discs) but I bought it for CD storage exclusively. My CD collection had outgrown the rack I'd been using for several years and after making do with boxes full of CDs in one corner of the house or another, I finally decided that the only way to enjoy my collection to its fullest was to have all of the CDs accessible on a proper rack.
The Prepac Triple Barrister was straightforward to assemble and is reasonably sturdy (although the assembly kit wisely includes extra materials to anchor the top of unit to the wall in case of an earthquake or other disaster.) The individual shelves are solid and do not bow due to the weight of the CDs, which is a problem I've seen in other racks, and the overall look is sleek and attractive.
However, when I first put the Prepac rack together I was in for a few surprises. My old rack had provided 10 rows of CD storage and was several inches narrower as well as a few inches shorter than the Prepac, yet when I'd finished building the Prepac and installed the rows of shelves I was dismayed to discover that I could only go as high as nine rows of CDs -- one less than my old rack. Yes, the Prepac was about seven inches taller than my old one, but I soon realized that the lack of a tenth row was due to the wider spacing between the rows as well as the addition of wood mouldings along the top. The mouldings blocked the upper third of what would could have been a tenth row of CDs, making it impossible to use that row to store anything.
This threw me off. The increase in net capacity that I'd wanted from buying a bigger rack seemed like it might be pretty much negated!
I soon realized, though, that to get back to ten rows of storage and actually accommodate more CDs than I had before, I could just remove the top mouldings. (They are purely decorative so removing them does not make the rack unstable.) This got me back to the same ten rows of storage as my old rack, which was not a net gain in that regard, but because the Prepac was also wider than my old rack I still was able to store another 350 or so CDs.
Other notes about the Prepac:
a) There are additional mouldings going up the front of the rack. Due to the way the unit is designed these cover the ends of the rows of shelves, to the point that if you fill each shelf completely from sidewall to sidewall then two or three CDs end up being hidden behind the mouldings at either end. This leads to an important decision, because if you want to actually be able to see all of the items on a particular shelf then you have to avoid placing them behind the mouldings, thereby sacrificing some of the unit's capacity. Since there are 30 individual shelves with two ends each, that amounts to at least 120 fewer CDs that can be stored! And since the vertical mouldings appear to add stability to the unit I felt that removing them would be a bad idea.
b) The underside of the large flat piece that crowns the unit is unfinished. This means that if you view the rack from a lower angle (like when you're seated on a couch in the same room) the unfinished brown wood is quite noticeable. The bottoms of the adjustable shelves are also unfinished. To take care of this I bought some eggshell-finish black acrylic paint at the hardware store and painted the underside of the top piece as well as the bottoms of the first three rows of adjustable shelves. (Once the remaining shelves are installed they are low enough on the unit that you rarely get a look at their undersides.)
c) The black finish used on the main frame of the Prepac is easily scratched since it appears to be black paper that's glued to the wood. The installation kit includes a black marker pen for touchups but the surface is a bit more delicate than I would have liked. Thankfully, the surfaces of the individual shelves are painted so their finish is more durable.
So, not a perfect media storage unit but for the price it is certainly good enough to earn four stars. Amazon's delivery gets five stars because they got it to me much sooner than expected.

Stanton 53"w Wide screen Tv Cart Review

Stanton 53w Wide screen Tv Cart
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Stanton Wide-Screen TV cart not for a TV, but for storage in my walk-in closet. It is very sturdy and well-made, and it rolls on wheels (which makes cleaning easier), but it does have to be assembled. (My husband did that.) It makes a great storage unit for the closet because its large top surface area can hold several large storage baskets...and behind the two doors are roomy storage possibilities. The two drawers at the bottom are roomy and reasonably deep. I decided to use the open shelf area for a large hat box (so didn't install the extra shelf there). I am very pleased with this storage cart.

Oak Double Width Wall Multimedia Storage Tower for CD, DVD & VHS Review

Oak Double Width Wall Multimedia Storage Tower for CD, DVD and VHS
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very pleased with the Storage Tower. It was easy to put together, and it turned out just what I needed to store my many DVD's in. I was happy with the way you could adjust the shelves in the cabinet. I wanted one that was divided in the middle so that the weight of the DVD's would not be as apt to make the shelves droop in the middle. It has not been long enough to know just how much it might droop in the future. It looks good and it matched my trimwork.
I believe it was well worth what I paid for it.

FourSided Spinning Media Tower Review

FourSided Spinning Media Tower
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have about 350 DVDs and not much room to store them. I have bought a few DVD racks in the past and they weren't very useful. The ones I have bought were not made well, plus everytime I would bump into the DVD rack, most of my DVDs would fall out. It was quite a hassle and they always took up room.
This DVD tower was terrific. Not only does it hold many DVDs, it also saves space. I bought the oak and black DVD tower and it looks very nice against my oak floor. The tower also swivels around and is very sturdy. The swivel is a great feature. I don't have to worry about all my DVDs falling out everytime I move the rack. Very well made and I am pleased with it. The best DVD tower I have bought.

Prepac Quad CD, Video, DVD Wall Storage Units - MA-1520 Review

Prepac Quad CD, Video, DVD Wall Storage Units - MA-1520
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all, this is your typical fiberboard product with a flimsy cardboard backing. That said, I am very happy with this purchase. The visible areas of the tower are finished nicely and do not look cheap. I have over 600 movies and they fit just fine with a little room to spare for odd shaped media. The directions are okay but could use some more detail. Assembly took about two hours but I was going slow and took a couple beer breaks. The worst part of this assembly was trying to attach the backing without punching a nail through the finish...I failed. They supply a cover-up marker for damage to the finish so the end result looked pretty good in spite of my wayward hammer. I just needed a place to store my dvd`s. This tower fits great in my basement since it only sticks out about nine inches from the wall.

RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike Hoist Review

RAD Cycle Products Ceiling Mount Bike Hoist
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We researched a lot of similar products via online reviews, settling on this one as having the greatest likelihood of highest quality / best price and WE ARE VERY PLEASED.
Here are some key things we'd like you to know:
1. It takes some time to get these things mounted right, so just plan on it... you need to string the rope through the 4 pieces and pulleys just so, mount them on joists just so, and ensure the distance between the two pieces is just right for your bike. We recommend at least two people, chips and salsa, and perhaps a coors light ;)
2. You can mount several bikes fairly close together if you offset the handlebars a bit forward and back among the mounts so that the handlebars never "share the same space." We bought 5 of these bike hoists and mounted them to run parallel to the joists spaced at 24" for mounting 5 bikes, one bike on each of five different joists mounted side-by-side. We bought long screws from the hardware store to replace those included in the package so we could securely screw through the drywall and further into the wood joists. We'd recommend including this hardware store errand in your time estimates for installation.
3. It is important that the BACK tire go toward the wall where the rope coming out of the brake will be cleated. The whole rope and braking mechanism works so well this way ... if you put the handlebars on the wall side like the picture for this product, then the handlebars block you moving the rope to operate the brake (trust, trust, trust me on this). If you put the back tire to the wall, the rope moves freely :) By the way, the braking mechanism in the pulley seems so sturdy you might choose not to mount/use the cleat, but it does feel safer to us to use it.
4. The distance between the ceiling and the bike will not be related to how far up the handlebars or the seat stick up ... it will be the length of the hardware above where it hooks on -- this may be important to you if you are mounting above a car and top-to-bottom distance matters. We mounted three of our bikes above a mini-van roof (the other two in front) and it was important to choose the lower profile bikes as not all of the bikes would have fit directly above the van. The "first bike" in line (at the front of the van) can be raised and lowered while the van is parked in the garage so that's a great location for whichever bike you'll be riding most frequently *or* for the bike of a kid not old enough to move the car in order to get his/her own bike down ;)
5. On arrival, the instructions said the mounts would hold 100 pounds (which is more than we had read here online). Our tandem bike fully equipped is just under 50 pounds and seems very secure and happy.
6. These are designed for the top rounded section of the lower hook assembly to fit into the rounded-out section of the ceiling mounted pulleys. The hook assembly will only fit into the ceiling assembly if the two pieces mounted on the ceiling are spaced EXACTLY to fit the specific bike where the hooks will grab the seat and handlebars. You'll be much more pleased if you take the time to get this spacing right (you can tell by letting the hooks hang down while you are choosing the mounting position ~ gravity will allow the ropes to work as a plumb line :)
7. Our thoughts relative to the complaints you might read about this product ... A. The rope has been fine, no fraying or other problems. B. The "hook" ends could be hook-ier without a doubt, although we've not encountered any problems with them (perhaps because we don't live in earthquake zones and we don't move with great haste :) C. Sometimes the front or back of the bike will raise or lower faster than the other end -- when this happens we simply grab the lowest tire and give it a boost up to level it which happens quickly and then it stays level for the rest of the up or down operation so it's never been a big concern. D. We mounted each bike directly into one joist (i.e., parallel/directly below one joist and not perpendicular between two joists) thus there was no need / benefit of mounting the brackets to a 2x4 first and then mounting the 2x4 to the ceiling -- we just mounted straight into the ceiling.
8. If you are going to cut the rope shorter, only do so when the bike is in the down position ... once the bike is lowered, this cool contraption uses a lot of rope!
9. Everyone in the family can operate these hoists easily -- they are so much safer and usable than the stationary hooks we used to have that involved lifting heavy bikes on and off. Also, if you leave the kickstand down as you put your bike up, then when you lower the bike on the pulley later, it will land ready to go :)
10. An unexpected benefit (beyond the extra garage space which we were hoping for) has been that all of us ride our bikes much more often than we used to. Putting the bikes up and getting them down is so easy that it has brought back a lot of frequency and joy to our bike riding experience.
August 2010 Update ~ Still using them and still loving them :)
Bon Appetit!

Atlantic 38435617 Oskar Review

Atlantic 38435617 Oskar
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased two of these Oskar media storage units last year and was very satisfied. I needed a third one for recent expansion, but Atlantic/Oskar has redesigned this unit without explanation and without improvement. The overall frame is the same: height, width and depth. While the total number of adjustable shelves are the same (30), the size and weight of the shelves have changed. In the units I bought last year, the shelves were were 1/2" thick and were 5.5 inches deep, the full depth of the shelving unit. The new shelves are only 3/8" thick and 4.5 inches deep. The old shelves weighed 14 oz, and new shelves weigh 8.5 oz, so the total package weight dropped by 10 pounds, which may have been the motivation for the redesign. The mounting holes have also shifted, so the shelves from the new and old units are not interchangeable.
What is the big deal you may ask? With a 5.5 in depth, DVDs sit completely on the shelf. With only 4.5 inches, the DVDs overhang by about half and inch. With a thinner profile (3/8"), the shelves are more likely to sag over time. The 1/2" shelves have shown no sign of sagging in the past year.
We did not see this design flaw until we put the media unit together. We plan on returning it to Amazon.
