(More customer reviews)My old "stereo bench" was coming apart after 20+ years of useful life. I was happy enough with it that I looked for its direct replacement, but IKEA did not have anything at all that I liked, and the selection in the stores in town was dismal. This was the best I could find.
Being Danish, I would have liked it in a "blonde" wood (beech, maple, bleached oak), but since my speakers were a warm fairly light cherry, I thought this might be an OK match. It turned out to be a bit darker than what I was hoping for ... I guess that is the limitation of buying over the web.
It arrived in about a week, and the friendly drivers were willing to do the assembly for me, when I promised to buy them lunch.
The design makes it fairly simple to accommodate all the cabling for my A/V gear:
- TV
- Front Speakers
- Center Speaker
- A/V Receiver
- TiVo DVR
- Media PC
- my old DVD player
- my old VCR
- Turntable
The smoked glass doors allow the IR signals from the various remote controls to pass through, but only when pointed fairly directly at the devices, not when bouncing off walls and ceiling.
At $1400, this was about twice what I was hoping to pay, but I do think it is very well designed and very well built, so I guess it is worth the price.
